Community seems to be experiencing a resurgence in our world. And what a wonderful thing that is. As people seek more meaningful re-connection with each other, with nature and with a more hopeful future.

It surprises me that one of the great challenges for people today is how we develop our collective capacity, or faculty, to really see together. To see a collective reality that we can all agree. To see beneath - to what lies dormant or latent or invisible in our lives and our organisations. To see the hidden value, root causes and the latent potential.

“Love is space. It is developing our own capacity for spaciousness within ourselves to allow others to be as they are. That is love. And that doesn’t mean that we don’t have hopes or wishes that things are changed or shifted, but that to come from a place of love is to be in acceptance of what is, even in the face of moving it towards something that is more whole, more just, more spacious for all of us.”

It seems a challenge to be natural in our increasingly unnatural digital world. As we look towards the quickening waves of technology and their artificial intelligences. Washing away human work. Etching new channels for careers. Drawing a line under what has gone before. Data and algorithm now controlling the future. Standardising and commoditising, measuring and metering the work.

The capacity to see our own patterns seems only possible with a sense of separation from ourselves. A maturity say, that allows some distance taking and a willingness to stop and explore ourself in hindsight, without judgement. Such reflection seems rare in a world of work that too strongly appreciates responding to the immediate. And advocates for conforming to particular ways of being.

Trying our best not to predict, provide advice, a model, or a framework for best practice. And, to take the time to understand whatever future comes, as it emerges, rather than through the ‘lens’ and expectations of the past. No one really knows what will happen from here.
